Please note booking requires a $50 nonrefundable deposit. Once the dates and all the details are confirmed you will receive an invoice the following balance. Intro to FX Makeup Workshop 

$65/student, 2 hours

This is our most popular workshop in the 7 years we have been hosting workshops! Special effects makeup is a fun and rewarding challenge. Whether you are a professional makeup artist or enjoy makeup as a hobby, this workshop is designed for everyone at all skill levels. Special effects makeup can be used for transforming a person into a creature/monster, older age, gore, injury and so much more. This workshop is taught by a professional makeup artist that can teach you the tips and tricks of the industry while practicing safely.

 

This hands-on and demonstration workshop will cover:

  • What is special effects makeup and why is it used
  • What are the best brands to use, where to source them and how to take care of your kit
  • Explore how to make quick and easy prosthetics
  • Learn how to apply prosthetics and remove safely
  • Practice making a cut and bruise on yourself
  • Discuss how to use gel effects and stage blood

 

 

 

Make a Latex Hand Makeup Workshop

$65/student, 2 hours

In this workshop we will teach the next level of advanced special effects makeup sharpening your makeup application and painting skills. Having the skills to not only to apply makeup to oneself but to build body parts is essential to any makeup artist. In this workshop you will also learn how to build body part props and prosthetics as you will be making a copy of YOUR OWN HAND! Be ready to get your hands dirty because this is a special effects project workshop!

This hands-on project workshop will cover:

  • Discuss what is needed in an advanced FX kit and its uses
  • Where to source materials and tools
  • You will build a copy of your own hand using latex and other materials
  • Learn and practice how to paint prosthetics so they look realistic
  • Learn how to build veins in your project
  • Explore what these props/ prosthetics can be used for and how to fill them so they look realistic
  • Students need to bring: hair dryer

 

Sculpting and Casting Prosthetics Workshop

$70/student, 2 hours

 

Have you ever wanted to design your own prosthetics? Then we have a workshop for you! This workshop will cover everything from flat sculpting and learning to create shapes and injuries intended for easy application prosthetics to with gluing and painting! Having the ability to create and apply self-designed prosthetics will give you endless opportunities for future makeup looks!

 

This hands-on and demonstration workshop will cover:

  • Students will receive take-home supplied kits: clay, plaster, latex, tile
  • Learn the techniques of sculpting using specialized tools
  • Students will cast their sculpt with plaster
  • Learn the techniques of pouring and demolding their prosthetic
  • Demonstration of painting, blending and which glues work best for each prosthetics

 

 

 

Face and Body Painting Workshop 

$60/student, 2 hours

In the world of makeup artistry, body-painting can feel like the Mount Everest of applications! A full body paint has many different challenges to consider: which type of makeup should I use? How can I make it long-lasting? How do I accomplish a full body paint? How can I achieve the illusion I want? These are just a few of the most common questions. In this workshop we will explore many different answers to each of these questions. This workshop has hands-on application and makeup demos, as we want you to try as many different types of makeup as possible!

This hands-on project workshop will cover:

  • Demo and hands-on application of: Aqua paints and crème paints
  • Tammy will demonstrate how to use: air brush, alcohol paints and pressed powders
  • Explore different techniques to accomplish a full-body paint
  • Learn to use stencils and discuss how to make your own stencils
  • Explore using an airbrush machine
  • When and how to layer different types of makeup
  • How to achieve illusion art makeup
  • How to professionally set and remove your makeup

 

Beauty Makeup Workshop

 $50/student, 2 hours

Beauty makeup is not easily self taught and can be frustrating to get the look we want. Many of us struggle to achieve the perfect skin tone, flawless lip liner, or even just the basic application of eyeliner and so much more! Learning the professional techniques of how and why beauty makeup is applied in a certain way can take your makeup to the next level. Students will complete full face makeup while Tammy instructs the class step by step. This workshop is intended for all genders, all levels of experience. Everyone is welcome!

This hands-on and demonstration workshop will cover:

  • The workshop will start with learning how to match your skin tones and other makeup colors
  • Learn to smooth out blemishes and other skin imperfections
  • Learn the steps of how to apply each step, from clean face to complete look
  • Learn basic day makeup to glam makeup
  • Learn which products work best for you, how to take care and store.

Students need to bring: personal makeup

 

Intro to Working with Wigs Workshop with Chelsea Kerr

$50/student, 2 hours

Welcome to the wonderful world of wigs! This workshop is for anyone who is interested in learning more about how to make that wig work for you! Whether you are a budding wig professional, cosplayer, drag performer, actor, LARPER, costumer or just a lover of wigs, this workshop is tailored to give you the knowledge and the hands-on experience to sharpen your wig skills. This workshop will have a portion of demo work and hands-on work. Chelsea is excited to work with you all!

Chelsea is a professional stylist in Edmonton and wig technician working theatre and film. Chelsea’s specialty is building and styling for her Drag King and Queen clients.

This workshop will cover:

  • Wig preparation and wig application (demo on a model)
  • Discuss caring, washing and disinfecting your wig (including lace)
  • Discuss sourcing wigs, tools, wig accessories and materials
  • Learn how to market and sell used wigs
  • Practice expert methods of combing, brushing and teasing
  • Learn how to make your wig long lasting and durable for daywear and performance
  • Working with heat resistant wigs, when and how to use heat properly

 

 

Intro to Theatre Wardrobe Management Workshop with Christy Greenwood

$50/student, 2.5 hours

 

Proper wardrobe management is essential to any wardrobe department. This workshop will explore what is needed in wardrobe management and how to execute it. This training is important for any wardrobe student and is very helpful for anyone that works in and around costumes. Whether you work full time or volunteer in a community theatre, dance company, high school theatre, college or professional theatre, this workshop will have the information you need to succeed.

Christy Greenwood is the owner of Theatre Garage and has over 20 year’s professional experience working in the costume department as a dresser, stitcher, cutter and head of wardrobe. She is excited to share industry tips and tricks with you all!

All skill levels are welcome.

In this workshop we will cover:

  • Setting up an organized wardrobe space
  • Understanding job titles and roles within the wardrobe department
  • How to work with designers and stay on budget
  • Setting up your Costume Bible (templates and hand-outs will be provided)
  • Learning how to build the proper paperwork: costume plot, Doff/Don and more
  • Costume sourcing: when to build, pull or borrow
  • Setting up backstage and touring with wardrobe
  • Basic running crew sewing, pressing and repairing
  • Best methods of costume laundry/maintenance
